Job Title: Structural/ Civil Engineer – Residential

Reports to: Director

Working mainly within the residential sector, our services include engineering consulting and design of reinforced concrete foundations, structural steel, timber, masonry and concrete, wastewater management systems, site drainage design and retaining wall structures.

The Role

Due to an increase in workload, we are seeking a suitably qualified person to fill the role of Structural/ Civil Engineer. Your role will be to provide structural engineering design solutions for a wide range of residential projects.

 

In this role, you will work closely with builders and drafters to provide high quality structural and civil documentation. Ensuring compliance to client specifications, company standards as well as other regulatory requirements. This role is hands on with all aspects of design, site observations and maintaining client relationships.

 

Responsibilities

• Design and draft a range of innovative engineering solutions including footing analysis and design, structural steel, concrete and timber design solutions and soil property analysis

• Prepare engineering drawings and designs using AutoCAD

• Make engineering calculations about pressures, loads and stresses

• Prepare written reports to a high standard and in a timely manner

• Review blueprints, plans and change orders to verify structural integrity of materials         and designs, and perform complex calculations and use modelling methods to ensure correct results

• Consider the strength of construction materials and select appropriately

• Provide technical advice on safe designs and construction

• Obtain planning and/or building regulations approval (i.e. Council Approval)

• Arrange, analyse and log site soil investigations

• Analyse configurations of the basic components of a structure

• Provide solutions to engineering problems and professionally liaise with clients

• Monitor and inspect all work undertaken by contractors to ensure structural soundness

• Create structural models by using computer-aided design software

• Conduct site inspections for residential footings and structural members

• Follow construction safety guidelines

• Manage, coordinate, track and report on engineering projects

• Research existing and new material technology to determine practical applications, strength and durability expectations and cost-benefits information, and prepare material

recommendations for current and future projects

• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by management

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor Degree qualifications in civil/structural engineering and design

• Minimum 3 years of structural design experience (within Australia) in residential projects

• Experience and knowledge of residential footing/slab (raft and waffle) design and

timber/steel framing

• Competent CAD drafting skills

• The ability to work independently as well as in a team

• Demonstrated ability to liaise with a variety of people including builders, designers and

trades people

• Understanding of Australian standards in relation to structural engineering design and

residential projects

• Excellent English written and verbal communication skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office

• Solutions focused mindset

• Excellent time management and organisational skills, and an ability to work to agreed

deadlines

• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

• Hold a Class C Australian Driver’s Licence and own your own vehicle

 

Travel

Occasional regional travel required for engineering site inspections.
